Distinguished Speaker Series: Food and Polarization

The UWC-USA Alumni Office is hosting a special virtual speaker event on February 18, 2025, at 6:00 PM MT, exploring how food can bridge divides and foster connection. This event, held ahead of UWC-USA’s Annual Conference, aligns with this year’s theme: Overcoming Polarization.

Featured speakers include:

Tal Oron Cohen ’90, chef and owner of Ba-Li Cravings Catering where she specializes in Mediterranean cuisine and sustainable food practices. Tal brings both strategic thinking and cross-cultural understanding to conversations about the future of sustainable food systems.
Susi Gott Séguret, is an author, chef, fiddler, and forager who hails from Madison County, North Carolina. A Certified Culinary Professional and Certified Specialist of Wine, with a diploma in Gastronomy and Taste from the Cordon Bleu and the Université de Reims, Séguret is the founder and Director of the Seasonal School of Culinary Arts. She is also the parent of Justin Séguret ’15
Ana Aracely Garcia Escobar, has a bachelor’s of science in gastronomy from the Universidad de Guayaquil. She is currently the chef manager of the UWC-USA kitchen and dining hall where she has earned accolades transforming simple cafeteria fare into a creative, flavorful dining experience.
Liam O’Hara is a five-year faculty member at UWC-USA teaching Economics and Global Politics. He hosts regular student meals at his house. With Aracely’s help he has reimagined the tradition of cultural dinners on the UWC-USA campus under the guise of “gastro diplomacy.”

They will share insights on how culinary experiences can break down barriers and bring people together.
